Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this research was to understand the family supporting experiences of young carers and to explore the family supporting process and factors affecting it.

Methods: To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with 11 men and women aged 18 or older who currently live in Korea and had experienced family care for more than two years in adolescence. The data were analyzed applying a grounded theory qualitative research approach.

Results: As a result of this research, 116 concepts, 48 subcategories, and 21 categories were derived. According to the passage of time, the family supporting process of young carers consists of four stages: ¡°start and conflict stage,¡± ¡°struggle stage,¡± ¡°cognitive transition stage,¡± and ¡°change and growth stage¡±. The core category was identified as ¡°aspiring to the postponed true self, enduring unprepared family care.¡±
